The Bible is clear: we are either slaves to sin, or slaves to righteousness. We cannot serve two masters. Our culture encourages us to live for ourselves, to define truth our own way, and to follow our own rules. The Spirit of God seals us, sanctifying us away from our old life. We could rephrase today’s Scripture verse like this: Remember, that we were once slaves in our sin and that the LORD our God brought us out of that bondage with a mighty hand and outstretched arms on the cross.
